Wire L-43 was made 1938 at Wilenius boatyard for Antti Wihuri. It was designed by Gösta Kyntzell. He designed Wire little bit tail heavy and that explains not so good race results -38. For next year that error got fixed and that made results much better. Wire was chosen to be representative of Finland at Gold trophy race 1939. After that Wire
participated many races during 40’s and was one of the fastest 6mr boats.

Wire in June 2006, Sails borrowed from Toy L-44

We bought Wire 1998 from Harri Biaudet and at that time Wire had lied on dry land for last 10 years. We started massive restoration project 1999 and that lasted next three years. We were lucky to find copies of original pictures from Göran Oloffsson, man who owned Wire(at that time Boo-Hoo) 1952-1964. We decided to make restoration work as original and as good as possible. Only original materials and not to save any effort.

We changed piece by piece everything else, but blanks above waterline, keel and rudder. Originally Wire used to have bruce deck, so we ordered sitka bruce blanks from U.S.A. Blanks were shipped to Muhos were they made original form plane blades for us. That way we got also the underneath of deck to look as original as possible. On hull we used only bronze screws, metal parts on deck are also made of chromed bronze. Line on the first side blank is made of 18k leaf gold.

Mast is made of alloy and we thought to buy modern winches as well as modern sails. We tried to have deck as plain as possible, has proved to work fine.

Wire has been racing last years, but results have not been very good. Probably many
reasons for that, but still at times when everything has gone well, Wire has showed that
she still is fast and beautiful boat. Under command of right captain and motivated crew I
believe that she could take her place again among the fastest 6mr boats.

Until this summer Wire were owned by Pertti Hämäläinen and myself , but since few weeks ago I have been the only owner. I do not sail myself (started the restoration for the love of  wooden boats), have two little kids and one 12m long wooden motorboat from 1928, who also need attention, really hope to find a new owner for Wire.
